How does hypnosis work? Why don’t you offer hypnosis when you are a Hypno-therapist?
Hypnosis is an interesting word for a brain wave state. There are four brain wave states that can be measured. They are Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta.
Beta describes the brain wave state in which decisions and judgments are made and is when you are feeling alert, challenged, or pensive.
Alpha is the state in which the measured brain waves are longer and more synchronistic. I refer to this as the "Be Here Now state". You are fully alert and aware of your surroundings but you are not in the future worrying about it nor are you in the past feeling sad or guilty.
Theta is the brain wave state in which we begin to loose conscious awareness and is what most people expect to experience when Under Hypnosis. The expectation is that hypnosis is something that is done to or for you.
And lastly there is Deep Delta Sleep. This is the most restful brain wave state. Many people do not achieve deep delta for long enough periods during sleep. They hover in the lighter stages of sleep and wake up tired in the morning.
To achieve lasting results with hypnosis a person requires repetitive exposure to the positive suggestions that have been offered during a hypnosis session. As a Hypno-therapist I create hypnotic processes and record them on CD's for my clients.
In my work, I feel that Alpha is the most beneficial brain wave state to be in. This is when the conscious (thinking) mind and the unconscious (hidden) mind are both present and communicating in a back and forth manner. This allows a person to gain insights about the buried beliefs that reside just below the level of awareness. The importance of this communication lies in the value of knowing oneself at a deep level. When a person lacks awareness of the hidden beliefs that are influencing their behaviors they will have habits they cannot change, even when they really want to.
I facilitate levels of relaxation using hypnotic tools, but find the Alpha brain wave state to be the most beneficial for achieving lasting results.
Each session includes a CD with a relaxation process designed to reinforce the emotional freedom that has been achieved. I encourage my clients to listen to their CD at night before sleep. This helps them to drift down into that delicious deep delta sleep, from which they will awake in the morning, ready and eager for the day of adventure ahead.
